We love adventure through expeditions! This camp combines adventure and exploration through a six (6) day, five (5) night Adirondack Canoe Trip. Your child will learn and experience what it takes to travel and live out of a canoe in the Adirondacks. Campers will learn how to navigate through the Adirondacks using a map and compass, enjoy backcountry gourmet cooking, and will develop leadership and team-building skills as they build community through this program. All of our instructors are highly qualified and experienced instructors in leading youth on canoe expeditions in the Adirondacks. End the week with a day of whitewater rafting! We will leave early morning, Monday, July 29th and return late Friday evening.
An online parent and camper orientation is scheduled for 6:00 pm July 19th for preparation. Campers must have a personal sleeping bag and proper clothing. An informational email with packing list will be provided one month prior to the date of this camp.
About: FLX Adventure Camp has been running outdoor adventure and camp programming for over nine years. We understand working with youth in adverse conditions. We are highly trained and experienced in assessing and mitigating risk. This doesn’t mean there is no risk to backcountry travel. We will discuss this more extensively in our information session, but we are all trained in risk management, are highly aware of our surroundings, including environmental and weather conditions, because our first concern is the safety of participants.
The route chosen is based on the weather forecast as the trip approaches. This trip is aiming to take the group to do a loop trip in the St Regis Canoe area. If the weather forecast looks iffy, the contingency/backup plan is to stay in a more localized area (Raquette Lake region) of the Adirondacks where access to shelter is within closer proximity.
The plan is to leave for the ADK’s Monday from Myers Park, canoe and camp around the St Regis Area, and end back at the van Thursday night for a Friday morning whitewater experience before heading back to Ithaca Friday afternoon.
